September 2008

Greetings From MightyMerchant.

It looks like fall has ushered in a period of financial fiascos and political ploys. In the midst of all the chaos, we hope you are able to find the business opportunities that are out there and are ready to maximize your efforts for the upcoming holiday season.

It is a good time to ask not what your website can do for you, but what you can do for your website! The Ecommerce sector is holding strong as many people see online shopping as a way to save on fuel costs and to find great values. With the holiday shopping season approaching it's a good time to think about how to drive more sales and leads in the coming months.

1. Are you updating the messaging on your website to reflect the season and the mood of your shoppers?

2. Have you considered which products will be the best sellers and are you pushing those on your home page?
3. Have you considered what kind of specials might work well for you at this time of year and how you can promote those either via email marketing, search engine exposure, or other promotions on your site?

4. Consider using an email marketing campaign over the next months to drive holiday traffic to your web site.

Let us know if you have questions about how you can be using your website more effectively or if you would like us to develop any new functionality for you.

Domain Pricing Change - Pricing increase effective September 15, 2008.

Effective 9/15/08, domain registration renewal is $22.00 per year or $45.00 for a 3 year renewal.

Special Offer - Domain Transfer Special

Are you currently handling your own domain registrations? We have seen all too many cases where customers let their domains lapse or miss their renewal notifications because they have not kept their domain records up-to-date. MightyMerchant can take care of your domain for you! For the entire month of October, we are offering domain transfers for only $20. That is a $15 discount off of the regular cost of $35.

Really Quick SEO Tip (only two minutes of your time!)

-- Add keywords to the 'Product Catalog' category name.

Edit the 'Product Catalog' category in your site manager and rename it with a keyword rich name, for example:

Pond Supplies Catalog
Organic Clothing Catalog
Bingo Supplies Catalog
Herbal Remedies Catalog

This creates keyword rich links on most of your pages because of breadcrumbs and other navigation links.

breadcrumb keywords-old

breadcrumb keywords-new

Log into your site manager and click the Catalog link in the top-left.
Click on 'Product Catalog' to edit the category.
Change the category name to include keywords as in the examples above.
Click the 'Save' button and your done!

Changes and Updates to MightyMerchant

We will release v3.621 of MightyMerchant this week. All customers currently on v3.62 will automatically receive this upgrade.

New SEO Tool

The "Optimize" feature in MightyMerchant has always offered you a fast and easy way to set page titles, keywords, urls and add descriptive text to your pages to improve your search engine results, but now it's gotten even better.

We've added a simple interface that allows you to download different sections of your web site, edit the SEO relevant information in a spreadsheet like Excel and then re-upload. If you are comfortable using Excel, or if you are working with an SEO company, you'll find this method really handy.

You'll find full documentation for this new feature here:
How to Use the MightyMerchant "Optimize" Feature

New Organization for "categorize" feature

MightyMerchant's "categorize" feature allows you to quickly place multiple items in a category. We have rearranged the "categorize" pages so that items are grouped by the main category of the item to make it easier to find the items you are looking for.

You access this feature by choosing "categorize" from the "I want to..." menu next to the category you want to add and remove items from.

New Payment Status Message - Re: "Trouble with Processing"

Your order emails have always shown a message something like this to indicate if a credit card transaction was successful.

Trouble With Processing: Y (or N)

We couldn't help but notice that many of you found this somewhat cryptic, so we've changed the message to be more clear. You'll now see something like this in your order emails:

If the transaction was successful:
Payment Status: Paid

If the credit card charge failed:
Payment Status: Unpaid/Credit Card Transaction Failed!

If the shopper is paying with PayPal, check or another method:
Payment Status: Unpaid/

If you are doing automated credit card processing through a payment gateway, remember that the email verification from the gateway vendor is your confirmation that payment was correctly processed.

Packing Slips, Receipts and Purchase Orders

The font on packing slips, receipts and purchase orders has been changed to a more compact font (Times instead of Helvetica).

Packing Slips, Receipts and Purchase Orders now show both the gift message and comments that the shopper entered when checking out. To override these notes on an individual order, edit the order and enter alternate text in the "Note for Receipt & Packing Slips" field.

Sales Tax Update - Florida and Washington State

We've added destination based sales tax calculations to accommodate the recent change in Washington state laws. We've also changed the Florida sales tax to include shipping charges when calculating sales tax as required by Florida Rule 12A-1.045.

Thanks for checking out SiteBeat. We value your business and look forward to hearing from you on ways we can serve you better.

Thank you, from all of us here at the MightyMerchant team!
