August 2007

Greetings from MightyMerchant.

As an online merchant, one of the best things you can do is look at your site objectively, from the point of view of a customer who hasn't heard of you before. You want that customer to get a positive impression of you, so that they will feel comfortable buying. This month we take an important look at ways you can reduce customer anxiety by providing content that engenders trust.

We've also got an overview of a new product called Crazy Egg (www.crazyegg.com). This tool allows webmasters to get a unique perspective on their website visitors, including where they click and how often. While we still recommend Google Analytics, this tool does something different.

We have two tips on ways to expand your offline and online profile -- Newspaper ads for those of you who are AdWords members, and by signing up for membership in USA Today's small business entrepreneurs panel.

As always, we welcome your feedback. Please contact us with comments as well as suggestions for future editions.

-- Notification of Email Quotas

By the end of August we will be implementing an email quota notification system on all email accounts. You will receive a notification if your email account reaches 80% of its capacity. The default quota for all accounts is 100 MB. If you receive the notification you will need to remove excess email from your account. If your account goes over quota, those who send you messages will get a message bounced back indicating that your quota has been exceeded.

As long as your POP email account is set NOT to leave mail on the server you should not be encountering disk quota issues. You can always log into your account via webmail by navigating to your_domain.com/mail (replace your_domain.com with your actual domain name) and delete your messages.

If you need additional storage space for your email you can purchase it from us at a nominal fee.

-- Password Reminder

If you have a MightyMerchant email account you were given a password to use for account access. We hope you have kept a record of your password, but if you discover that you have lost or forgotten it, please contact us. Without the password you will not be able to access your account! For security reasons, we do not store user passwords on our end.

-- Constant Contact Business Partnership

In May, MightyMerchant announced a new business partnership with Constant Contact, a service that manages email marketing campaigns. Since then, we have had several clients sign up to compose and send promotional email marketing items, with positive results. We have professional staff who will help with composing, editing and sending your email newsletters or other promotional items with Constant Contact. Please let us know if you would like more information about this service.

-- Join USA Today's Small Business Entrepreneurs Panel

Free national exposure for your business? It just got a little bit closer to reality with this invitation to join the USA Today Small Business entrepreneurs panel. Jim Hopkins, Editor of the USA Today Small Business Connection column blog (http://blogs.usatoday.com/smallbiz), invites owners, managers, and employees of small businesses across the country to fill out an easy, one page online survey with some information about you and your contact details. After signing up, you join the 1,500 members of his small-business advisory panel. Hopkins says he turns to his advisory panel for information for his column. This looks like an easy way to distinguish yourself from the nearly 20 million small businesses in the United States, and position yourself for some possible national coverage.

Sign up for the USA Today entrepreneurs panel.

-- Google Expands AdWords to Newspapers

Another way to get exposure for your business is through a Google AdWords account. Google recently expanded their program, giving current AdWords members the ability to purchase print ads in approximately 225 newspapers from large and small regions all over the country. Advertisers can select newspapers, sections of the newspapers, and days of the week when the ads will appear, and place bids for ad space in them. The targeted newspapers approve or decline these bids, providing feedback about their decision.

The program is geared toward making a national newspaper ad campaign easier for smaller advertisers with little time or know-how to mount their own campaigns. For anyone considering newspaper ads, this looks like a great way to get some deals; you would be bidding primarily on space not sold by the newspaper's advertisement team.

Check out the print ads program here.
